Hands On Gainesville

Scientists inspiring a new generation of problem-solvers.

Rockets at Bishop Middle School

6th graders at Howard Bishop Middle School learned about rocketry by building and launching stomp rockets, water bottle rockets, and Alpha 3 solid fuel rockets.  Students learned about triangulation by acting as observers while they used altiscopes to measure the angle at apogee of the rockets.  They learned how to find the tangent of the measured angle and average measurements to calculate the launch height. Thanks to Mr. Jimmy for his knowledge, enthusiasm, and technical support during the two-week study!
