Exploring Seeds at the Cone Park Library

Students dissect a seed and plant a seed at the Cone Library.
What does a seed need to become a plant? What are the parts of the seed and what do they become? Hands On Gainesville volunteers from Eastside High School explore what plants and seeds need to grow with K-5 students at the Cone Park Library.  Our volunteers worked with the after school science program to dissect a seed, learn the parts of the seed and explore how they turn into plants. With recycled newspaper, students made small planting pots and planted their own bean plants to grow at home. They took home mini seed books to remember their seed parts. Photos by James Thieke
